Hello and welcome to Healthful Mind Body and Soul! I’m Celeste Meredith, 51 years-old and I have a beautiful 17-year-old daughter. Living a healthy lifestyle has always been important to me, however after getting married and having a baby I found it harder to fit in my workouts. My weight somehow still was not a problem. After moving to Texas in 2002 I started to put on the extra pounds slowly. With each new season I noticed my clothing not fitting quite the same, things were getting tighter. At one of my yearly physicals the Dr. told me my cholesterol was getting near the danger zone. I became a little concerned and invested in all sorts of fitness DVD’s but I was never able to stick with them long enough for any of them to work. I just resolved myself to the fact that almost all women gained weight as they got older and it was my time to be that older women who gained the weight.
In the spring of 2010 I was asked to fundraise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society thru a program called Team In Training. In exchange for being a fundraiser I would receive help from experienced running coaches and a nutritionist to complete my first half-marathon (13.1 miles). Meeting as a group with other runners each weekend to train with our coach made me more accountable and I stuck with the program. I was a little unsure at the beginning, but I was willing to give it a try. My first few training were hard. I had shinesplints and I just wanted to stop, but I didn’t I just thought of the cancer victims. Along the way to completing my first ever half-marathon I learned so much about myself and just how strong I had become, not just physically but mentally. Running is a physical and mental endurance sport and I was now hooked.
I began to eat more healthy, I needed the energy to make it thru my training runs. I soon noticed that my clothes were fitting me differently, I was losing all those extra pounds. This was a win win situation. I had raised over $2000 to help fight blood cancers, completed my first half-marathon and I had gotten healthier in the process. I made a lifestyle change and became a vegetarian.
This blog documents my life on my journey to maintain a healthful mind, body and soul. By sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire you on your journey to becoming whole body healthy….Healthful Mind, Body and Soul!!!
