Marvelous Weekend,I’m Training Again and The Winner Is…

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope your weekend was as good as mine.

I’m training again! I’ve signed on with “Team In Training” to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood cancers. The event I’m training for is the Honored Hero run, which is to honor those who have battled, are currently battling and in memory of those who have lost their battle with blood cancers. I’ll be running a half-marathon because the event doesn’t have a full-marathon course.

Summer training means 6:00 am training runs to beat the heat and every Saturday a 30 minute drive to meet my team at 6:30 am for our group training long runs. Yeah, no more sleeping in on Saturdays.  Thinking about the cancer fighters and survivors and all that they go through, it’s more than enough motivation for me to get up and go.

There have been amazing breakthroughs and miraculous new treatments and healing therapies once thought impossible. Some of the money that’s raised funds the co-pay and insurance assistance that helps many patients afford the medications they need. Now that’s a Marvelous thing!

Cures today. Not someday. That’s the goal.

My goal is to raise $1500 to help find a cure, I’ve included the link to my fundraising page if you would like to help with this worthy cause and become one of my sponsors.

WIAW #26 and Hooping It


Happy What I Ate Wednesday! Tuesday’s eats were quick, easy and simple.

  • Breakfast – Spinach, banana and cherry smoothie.
  • AM Snack – Spicy hummus and crackers.
  • Lunch – Romaine, spinach and kale salad.
  • PM Snack – Coffee and greek yogurt.
  • Dinner – Tomato, vegan mozzarella and basil panini with salad.


Monday I told you about the hula hoop competition at our weekend gathering. Well, my 10 year-old nephew has become obsessed with the hula hoop, he hoops while reading his homework, he’s that good and determined to get 6-pack abs. He’s in a trending group, hula hoop workouts are becoming more popular around the country. You can burn quite a few calories working out with hoops, however, the hoops used in workouts are weighted and rotate a bit slower around the body making it a little easier than a hoop you get from the toy store. I must admit it has been a long, long time since I have hooped and I am not good at it, I certianly can’t do it as long as these two.


Hoopnotica is one of many companies that offer weighted hoops with DVD workouts and you can also search for certified instructor in your area. They were recently featured on Good Morning America.

I think I’ll start with the $5.00 toy store hoop before upgrading to the weighted hoop, the weighted hoops range from $32.99 to $149.99, have to learn how to use one again before investing that much.

Hooping is a great core workout and a good way to turn your workouts into fun playtime or make some extra money if you become a certified hoop instructor.

WIAW #24 and Running After Work



Happy WIAW!  I hope your week is going well.

I started my day off Monday with a delicious green smoothie, I served it up in a nice big mug/bowl and added some Ezekiel 4:9 cereal and blackberries. It was thick, creamy and good!


Lunch was a big bowl of salad goodness.  Romaine, spinach, grape tomatoes, red onions, dried cranberries, raw almonds, crispy fried onions sprinkled on top and dressed in a light honey mustard dressing.  Yum, Yum!


For an afternoon snack I grabbed a mango from my desk fruit bowl.

I took my workout clothes to work with me and changed before my drive home. My thinking was that it would save me the time of changing once I got home and I would be more motivated to workout if I were already dressed for my workout.  It worked, I went for a 4 mile run, I struggled the first half mile or so, but once my body warmed up I was feeling good.  It’s amazing how running even after a long day at work can give you an energy boost. I felt so good after my run, but I think running in the early mornings is my favorite time to run, it gives me energy to face the day.  After my run I took leftover veggie pasta, mixed in meatless italian sausage sautéed with onions, tossed with alfredo sauce and sprinkled on some nutritional yeast for the smokey flavor.

After dinner I did some blog reading and had a very good nights rest.

WIAW and Spring on Holiday

Happy WIAW!  Spring took a little holiday Tuesday here in Texas. Just the night before I was running in Nike shorts and a sleeveless top. Tuesday it was cloudy, cold and windy.   I started my day with a banana protein smoothie and when I arrived at work I had one cup of coffee, (not pictured).  I made a rice paper veggie wrap tucked inside romaine lettuce with a side of baby carrots, grape tomatoes and lemon pepper hummus.  During the afternoon I snacked on blackberries, chopped mango and a banana with lots of water.  For my dinner I made a kale, baby bellas, vegan cheese and ground flaxseed scramble, scooped inside lettuce. I spiced it up with red pepper flakes.


Before bed I did 8 minute arms and 8 minute abs

 Feels like the longest 8 minutes during both of the workouts.

MIMM #2 and Headache Free



Welcome to another Monday!  I hope you all had fun this weekend, Saturday I lounged a bit and I started to pull clothes from my closet to donate, but I became so overwhelmed I decided to go for my long run.


  I had planned to do a loop, run out 4 miles turn around and come back to make 8, but as I was approaching the 2 mile mark I was starting to feel tired, weak and my head was beginning to hurt.  It ended up being a 4 mile run instead.  I prepared a fruit bowl of non-fat greek yogurt and blackberries when I got home and after a shower I had a great big salad, and my energy level was coming back, but I still had a huge headache.  I was determined not to take any meds for my headache, because earlier in the week I took them and ended up with a killer stomach ache.  Finally after drinking lots of water and eating a sunflower seed butter and banana sandwich, my headache went away. THAT WAS MARVELOUS.  When I was training with Tean-In-Training the coaches used to always say “stick to what works for your long runs “, but Saturday I had Eggo pancakes instead of my old trusty oatmeal.  I know every run won’t be a good run, but I think I have learned my lesson to fuel my body adequately before my runs.

Sunday was a much better day, every third Sunday my daughter and I volunteer in our church nursery caring for infants  and toddlers.  After returning home, and doing an interval workout, I  made coffee smoothie with leftover coffee, chocolate flavored protein powder, frozen banana and chia seeds.


Marvelous was my Sunday lunch of roasted potatoes topped with salsa, cheese and greens, SOOOOO tasty.
