Do It Yourself Natural Hydration
We all know how important it is to hydrate and replenish during and after hard workouts, but did you know you can make your own sports drink and say goodbye to dyes, sugar syrups and artificial flavorings.
The three components needed to make a sports drink effective are water, electrolytes, (salt), and sugar. You can easily make your own to save time and money.
- For the water you can use plain filtered water, unsweetened green tea, fruit tea or unsweetened coconut water.
- Electrolytes use natural sea salts.
- Carbohydrate, use a drizzle of honey or agave nectar or splash of natural fruit juice.
Recipe 1 – Unsweetened coconut water base, my favorite. The level of electrolytic balance in coconut water is the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood, which makes it the perfect workout or post-workout drink. Be sure to purchase coconut water processed thru cold sterilization, it allows the water to maintain its flavor and nutritional value.
2 1/2 to 3 cups unsweetened coconut water
1/2 cup fresh orange and papaya juice
dash of himalayan sea salt
1/2 teaspoon agave nectar
Adjust the amount of water and fresh juice to suit your taste.
Store in an airtight container in fridge.
Recipe 2 – Filtered water base.
Juice from one large grapefruit
Juice from one lime
2 1/2 to 3 cups of filtered water
dash of himalayan sea salt
1/2 teaspoon agave nectar or honey
Again you may have to adjust to suit your taste.
Store in an airtight container in fridge.
Be creative and have fun designing your own sports drink.
Have a Happy Safe Fun Memorial Day weekend!!
